How to prepare your hydraulic model for upload
If you already have a hydraulic model built in a modeling software, uploading it to Qatium is straightforward—just export it as an EPANET .inp file.
Depending on the tool you are using, there could be different ways of doing that. We'll walk you through the process to make sure your data is complete and ready for upload.
Create a .inp file from EPANET
Before exporting your model from EPANET, make sure the map dimensions are set:
- Go to View in the top menu
- Select Dimensions
- On Map units choose Degrees
- Click Ok to confirm
Then, to export the model follow these steps:
- Go to File in the top menu
- Select Export
- Choose Network
Create a .inp file from WaterGEMS
- Go to File in the top menu
- Select Export and then EPANET
- A text box about using element IDs might appear: choose No
Create a .inp file from InfoWater Pro
- Go to the Model Explorer
- Press Command Center
- Open the Exchange group
- Select Export EPANET
Create a .inp file from InfoWorks WS Pro
- Go to the explorer panel
- Use your mouse to right-click on the network you want to export
- Select Export, then EPANET V2

⚠️ Important: When exporting to EPANET format, most softwares don't include control logic in the .inp file. These rules—governing pumps, valves, and other dynamic elements—are often lost during export.
Some platforms allow you to export these controls in separate files (such as .csv, .txt, or Excel), but they use the software’s own syntax. To use them in Qatium, you’ll need to follow our guide to set up controls.
If your EPANET .inp model is not an EPS model, you need to add demand patterns. If not provided, Qatium will infer it automatically—but uploading it yourself improves model accuracy and reliability.
For you to work with the most accurate representation of your network, we recommend you to update your model using EPANET or adding GIS layers to overwrite outdated values.
Now you are ready to upload your hydraulic model into Qatium!
