Timeline & map

When you test a scenario in Qatium, two essential tools help you make the most of it: the timeline and the map. Let’s take a look at why they matter—and how to use them effectively.

Timeline

Every scenario in Qatium is time-based. This means that when you simulate an event or change in your network, you need to specify when it happens.

  • Choose a date using the calendar.
  • Select a time using the timeline.

For example, let’s say you simulate closing a valve at 8 a.m.—you can then fast-forward through the timeline to see how that change affects your network throughout the day. Before 8 a.m., Qatium will use your base network or live data (if available) to perform the calculations. After that, your scenario kicks in.

This helps you understand short-term and long-term impacts of your decisions—hour by hour, step by step.

Map

Qatium’s interactive map is more than just a background. You can view your network in detail or get a broad, strategic overview using different map controls.

  • Zoom in and out to focus on specific elements or get a wider view.
  • Activate satellite view . This gives you a real-world, high-level perspective of your network layout. It’s especially useful when you need to understand your infrastructure in its geographic context.
  • Switch the view from 2D to 3D
  • Frame the map to center your active network in one click.
  • Reset north to keep your orientation clear and consistent.

Each control helps you navigate with ease and ensures you're always seeing what matters most.

Together, the timeline and the map give you full control over your simulations. They let you:

  • Test different scenarios at specific times.
  • Analyze the consequences across the day.
  • Navigate your network with confidence.
  • Make informed decisions based on location and time.
