Keeping your network updated allows you to have a more accurate representation of the physical network. Regardless of the file type you used to create your network, you can easily update it anytime.
While inside the network, you can:
- Replace the existing EPANET files or GIS layers with the updated ones — make sure you keep the same names.
- Add new files or GIS layers — just make sure to name the new files differently to avoid overwriting existing ones.
You have 2 options to add or replace your layers:
- Drag & drop them into the interface
- Click on the Network layers icon and then Add data
Important:
If you upload a new EPANET file to a network that includes GIS layers, all existing layers will be marked as ignored, except for zone layers.

Qatium will do its best to recognize and assign asset types to each imported layer, but in some cases, layers might be ignored or misassigned. Q will let you know if that’s the case.
You can recategorize your layers – reassign data to a different type of layer – or ignore any of them by clicking on the Network layers icon.
Important:
– Recategorizing and ignoring network layers entail changes not only to the view but also to the structure and performance of your network. Before applying any changes, Q, your digital assistant, will pop up and ask you to confirm that you want to go ahead, just in case.
– You’ll need to be a network or workspace owner to make recategorizations.
