Meter deployment
Use case
Knowing where and how to install meters is key for improving billing accuracy and reducing non-revenue water (NRW). The Meter Deployment plugin helps you visualize the current state of metering in your network so you can prioritize where to deploy new meters more effectively.
This plugin is ideal for utilities aiming to increase measurement coverage, improve revenue, and reduce losses by accelerating smart meter rollouts.
Data requirements
Depending on the data you have available for your network, you will be able to test different scenarios and/or get better insights. Double-check below if your network meets the data requirements to analyze metering coverage with Qatium.
The more information you have available, the better!
Minimum data requirements
With this data, you can perform a basic meter deployment analysis in Qatium:
- Basic assets (supply sources, pipes, tanks, pumps, control valves and shutoff valves)
- Customer points
- Readings and/or live data
- Consumption data
Essential for deeper insights
Additionally to the minimum requirements, and as a best practice for deeper insights, we recommend your network to have the following data:
- DMAs (zones) clearly defined
- Estimated consumption per DMA
Tools
To plan meter installation in Qatium you can use the following tools:

If the Meter Deployment plugin is not available on your subscription, you can buy it from the Marketplace.
How to use Meter Deployment in Qatium
Step-by-step guide
Follow these steps to assess your meter coverage:
- Go to your network in Qatium
- Open the Meter Deployment plugin and activate the toggle ON
- Go to a date in the calendar and a time in the timeline where you have readings.

As easy as that! You'll immediately see an overview of meter installation and consumption coverage across your network.
Insights & results
With the Meter Deployment plugin you can analyze your current metering status and the areas for improvement.
- Estimate revenue potential improvement
Each installed meter helps reduce billing gaps. We estimate utilities can recover up to 15% in revenue through accurate meassurements. - Estimate NRW reduction potential
Smart meters speed up leak detection and expose unregistered use, cutting water loss by up to 20%. -
Check the installed active meters
This helps you understand the number and percentage of meters that are not only installed on your customer points, but also the ones tht are active. This could mean that some of the installed ones may be offline or need a replacement.

-
Analyze consumption coverage
Compare the overall network estimated consumption against the amount recorded by active meters to identify gaps. -
Check the coverage per DMA
Analyze each zone in your network and plan installing more meters on the ones under 80% of coverage. This allows you to unlock water balance, reduce losses and improve revenue.

-
Identify customer points without readings
We display the top 5 customer points without readings with the highest demand volume. That way, you can prioritize where to install new meters. - Download a report with the customer points without readings to plan your next meter installations.
