MNF monitoring
The MNF Monitor plugin helps you monitor how the MNF evolves in your network zones and estimate potential leakage by analyzing Minimum Night Flow (MNF) data. It highlights zones that may require attention and shows how MNF trends evolve over time—supporting smarter and faster decision-making.
Use case
This plugin helps you:
- Identify zones with higher leakage-to-zone-length ratios
- Estimate potential leakage using MNF-based calculations
- Validate the impact of field actions
- Support operational decisions with clear trend summaries
Heads up:
The leakage values shown in the plugin are estimations. We assume that 70% of the Minimum Night Flow (MNF) typically corresponds to leakage. This helps you detect zones that might need further investigation or intervention.
Data requirements
To use the MNF Monitor plugin, your network must include:
- Defined zones (DMAs)
- Flow sensors at all inlets and outlets of each zone
- Valid flow readings between 00:00 and 08:00 for the day you’re analyzing
How to use the MNF Monitor plugin
Step-by-step guide
- If it's not already available in your networks, go to the Marketplace, purchase the plugin and install it.
- Open your network in Qatium, find the MNF Monitor plugin
in the list, and switch the toggle ON .

- Use the calendar to select the day you want to analyze.
- Review the zones highlighted based on MNF tendency (increasing, decreasing, or stable) and zone size.
- Expand the list to see more zone insights, and click on a zone to view detailed information.

- Explore MNF and net flow trends over time using the graph. You can:
- Change the date range

- Zoom in on specific periods

- Click the legend to focus on MNF or net flow

If you’ve repaired a leak or taken another action in the field, return to the plugin to check results.
Select the following days in the calendar—if the action was effective, MNF should appear more stable.
Insights & results
For each DMA you'll see:
-
Today’s MNF, compared with:
- Yesterday
- The same day last week
- The 7-day average
- A tendency summary:
- Decreasing: Today’s MNF is ≥ 0.3 l/s lower than the same day 7 days ago
- Increasing: The aggregated increase over the past 7 days is ≥ 0.3 l/s
- Stable: Any other case
- Evolution over time: a graph helps you track how MNF and net flow values evolve. Use the date tabs, zoom navigator, and legend controls to focus on the data you need.
- Interactive map: we highlight the selected zone on the map so you have a clearer view.
Use MNF Monitor to keep a close eye on MNF trends and act quickly when issues arise. It’s a practical way to stay ahead of network inefficiencies—without waiting for visible failures.
